Chris and I are nearing the end of Script Frenzy, so I am kind of tapped out writing-wise. Nevertheless, I thought it about time to bring the site up to date on a few key points of interest:
I have quit my job.
I have started a new job, which is a new company, which consists of myself and my buddy, who is a brilliant graphic designer type. We are going to make crazy awesome web-based things. And hopefully not starve.
I have a Macbook Pro.
The world, as far as I can tell, is still spinning on the same axis.
That is all.

First, just to get it out of the way: We recently launched a big website that I've been working on for awhile. A buddy of mine did all the graphic design, I did all the programming, and a whole bunch of people helped with data entry and testing. Anyhow check it out here: http://www.lighthousecollective.com/
So, the Oscars happened. I was basically super happy this year. Tons of people won that I thought should win, and I had TiVo so I could skip all their stupid malarkey. No Country For Old Men cleaned up, and I couldn't be more pleased, since that was one of my favorite movies all year. And Falling Slowly from Once won for best song, which was perfect, because it was the best song. (Once is also a really good flick.)
Um... what else. I don't know. I'm going to go see if House is on now, because it is the best show on television. That is all.
we are just blowing through nap time aren't we

It's not often that the death of someone I don't know, particularly someone famous, will produce a sinking feeling in me. Heath Ledger's did.
Perhaps it was my anticipation of his upcoming Dark Knight role. Perhaps it's the fact he was only three years older than I am. I honestly can't exactly tell you why.
But this sucks.
i'm very sorry

It is time to face facts. I am referring to myself, as it turns out, and the fact I will be facing is the quite obvious reality of the current Update Schedule. In other words, I'm going to stop pretending that I can keep up with some kind of once-a-week rollout pattern, or anywhere close to that. Basically this just means I'm going to stop the repeated hand-wringing and fervent apologies. The posts, they are going to be quite sporadic for the forseeable future. Such is life. This will be the only tangible alteration.
Anyway. I have seen a lot of movies that I will comment on briefly. These are all movies that I liked a fair bit. I try not to see movies that I don't like anymore. Over the years I have nearly perfected a system of weeding out "movies I will not like" based on gatherable data such as trailers, cast & crew involved, and review aggregates. In the rare cases where the system misfires, I tend not to discuss the films I didn't care for. Mostly because I don't have the stamina to rehash it.
Thus:
No Country For Old Men -- Very much fantastic. I generally enjoy everything the Coen brothers throw on a screen, but this one is special. Can't say exactly why. Just loved it.
Atonement -- A few storytelling quirks I didn't care for in the beginning, but gets better as it goes on, and by the end I really liked it. Good acting, good characters. An affecting film.
Juno -- Awesome. Take the good things everybody's already said about it, add "I concur" to the bottom.
Sweeney Todd -- As I've told several people, I hate musicals, and really the only thing that could have got me in the seat would be the equation of Johnny Depp + Tim Burton - Animation. By gum, those math wizards up and pulled it off; and suprise, surprise, I enjoyed myself. Somebody might want to check the thermostat in hell or something.
Waitress -- This is an absolutely wonderful little film. One of my new favorites. I don't want to be harsh or anything, but if you didn't care for it, I'm really not sure how we could ever be friends.
Cloverfield -- Much better than I expected. Of all these, this was the only one I saw on a bit of a lark. I didn't exactly love it or anything, but the acting was actually pretty good, and they cheated a lot less then I figured they would. It's a solid piece of entertainment, and there's some cinematic tricks that I got a good kick out of.
There Will Be Blood -- Excellent. Pacing is slower, but I don't know that I'd call that a flaw. Acting, as you've heard, is tremendous. A film to be enjoyed for its characters more than its story.
This concludes the long rambling list of movies that I saw since the last time I talked about movies that I saw. I am in Indiana right now for work. Indiana is most certainly not the same thing as California.
Make of that what you will.
i have a competition in me

My goodness, it's been a ridiculous long time since my last missive. I've been keeping good and busy, and here's hoping you all have too. I haven't much time, and I'm hoping to update more soon. But I just wanted to take a brief moment and wish everybody a great holiday. Have terrific times!
